2010 PLATTS GLOBAL ENERGY AWARDS HONOR GALVIN ELECTRICITY INITIATIVE'S KURT YEAGER
Yeager chosen among more than 200 international nominees as finalist for Lifetime Achievement Award
WASHINGTON — The Galvin Electricity Initiative congratulates Executive Director Kurt Yeager for being selected as a nominee for the Platts Global Energy Lifetime Achievement Award for his visionary leadership as an advocate, author and a champion of innovation. One of nine finalists, Yeager has worked tirelessly to improve electricity technology and service delivery for more than 40 years. As leader of a national non-profit organization calling for energy reform, he constantly challenges utility executives and policymakers to place consumers at the center of a revolutionary system transformation.
After a massive 2003 blackout left nearly 50 million people without power in the United States and Canada, Initiative founder Bob Galvin recruited Yeager to lead the organization, which is focused on creating an electrical power system that does not fail.
“There are plenty of smart grid proponents out there, but Kurt is the only one advocating we tackle the problem the way a top-notch corporation would — by harnessing quality methods, promoting entrepreneurial innovation and focusing on the consumer in order to fix the grid in a way that aims for perfection,” said Galvin. “His unfailing commitment to these goals makes him so deserving of this recognition.”
Prior to leading the Initiative, Yeager held leadership roles at the Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. (EPRI). He also has testified before Congress 22 times and served as energy advisor to U.S. Senator John McCain. Yeager has authored more than 200 technical publications, including co-authoring the book, Perfect Power: How the Microgrid Revolution Will Unleash Cleaner, Greener and More Abundant Energy.
The Galvin Electricity Initiative was launched by former Motorola CEO Robert W. Galvin to transform our electric power system into one that is reliable, efficient, secure and clean, and meets the needs of 21st century consumers. The Initiative is accelerating its campaign to spark a migration toward a consumer-driven electric power system in select states. The campaign goal is to promote grid modernization through policy reform to pave the way for Perfect Power smart microgrids that place top priority on serving consumers and businesses with reliable, high-quality, clean power.
