LEADING SMART GRID’S “WAY FORWARD” AT GRIDWEEK 2011 IN D.C.
The Galvin Electricity Initiative will present the Energy for an Empowered Society track at this year’s annual GridWeek Conference—a gathering of Smart Grid stakeholders from around the world at Washington, D.C.’s Convention Center. The consumer-focused session will be held on September 13 and feature the Aclara-led Personal Grid session, General Electric’s Empowered Homes and Businesses session and the Community-Based Grid session moderated by UL’s Chris Banakis.
In another GridWeek session, Initiative Vice Chair Kurt Yeager, former head of the Electric Power Research Institute, will share his more than 30 years’ worth of insights on how we can measure smart grid performance, including the Perfect Power Seal of Approval’s™ national grid rating program, during the Deployment Roundtable on September 15.
Following the panel discussion on the state of deployment, Kurt Yeager will be available for the media roundtable, moderated by Sensus USA’s David Elve, with Department of Energy’s Joe Paladino, San Diego Gas & Electric’s Lee Krevat and Tendrill’s Paul Cole.
WHAT: Media Roundtable: Lessons from the Field and Market
WHY: Questions for the panelists will include:
- Which benefits were expected and which have been realized? Were there any unanticipated benefits?
- How has the architecture developed and the deployment work that has been done so far laid the ground work for future applications?
- What advice would you give to utilities following you down the smart grid path?

The Galvin Electricity Initiative was launched by former Motorola CEO Robert W. Galvin to transform our electric power system into one that is reliable, efficient, secure and clean, and meets the needs of 21st century consumers. In 2011, the Initiative continues to spark a migration toward a consumer-driven electric power system that is based on quality leadership. The goal is to promote grid modernization through policy reform and the development of Perfect Power smart microgrids that place top priority on serving consumers and businesses with reliable, high-quality, clean power.
